Urban archaeology presents unique challenges and opportunities. Urban sites often lie above metres of stratified archaeological remains that have built up over hundreds or even thousands of years of human occupation. These rich deposits allow us to reconstruct inspirational stories of past communities, but they can also be demanding to manage. Oxford Archaeology has decades of experience in assessing and mitigating complex urban environments, including the award-winning Oxford Westgate project which is a case study of best practice within the sector.
