Phil graduated from the University of Reading in 2003 with a BA in Archaeology before working for the next 14 years in retail distribution and warehousing, in several roles from the shopfloor up to senior management.  He returned to Reading in 2017 to complete an MA in Archaeology, focused on prehistory and zooarchaeology. 

Phil then worked as a field archaeologist, joining Oxford Archaeology's Oxford office in 2019, and spent a considerable amount of time working on the HS2 rail project.  In his current role as Logistics and Facilities Manager at the Oxford office of Oxford Archaeology, he uses his experience in stock management to make sure the field team is provisioned for work, and that current regulations are followed to make our workplaces safe. 

Zoe Joined Oxford Archaeology as the payroll manager in July 2022. Zoe is very experienced in Payroll and joined Oxford Archaeology after Spending ten years as a manager for Sainsbury’s, before this Zoe worked as a payroll and finance manager for an e-commerce company.  

Zoe has the overall responsibility for the payroll of Oxford Archaeology and supports the HR and Finance team. 

Carole began her archaeological career in 1984, when she started as a volunteer excavator at Laugharne Castle, and Haverfordwest Priory, a site she returned to every summer for nearly 10 years. An HND in practical Archaeology at Bournemouth followed, and later, a BA (Hons) in Archaeology at Leicester. Excavation work eventually brought Carole to what was then the Cambridgeshire County Council Archaeological Field Unit on a three-month contract back in 1994. Twenty-nine years later, after various company name changes and numerous different roles, which included excavator, illustrator, finds supervisor and medieval pottery specialist, she is now Finds and Archives Manager at ourCambridge office. 

Karen Barker graduated from Cardiff University in 1989 with a BSc (Hons) in Archaeological Conservation. She has worked for various organisations as a digger and as site conservator on sites in Jordan, Sudan and Turkey. Karen was previously a conservator based in the north-east of England providing advice and conservation services to museums and other organisations before joining the Lancaster office in 2019 as Finds, Archives and Environmental Officer Her main area of interest is x-radiography, conservation and finds identification of metal artefacts. 

Katherine graduated with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology from UCL in 2004 and an MLitt in the History of Collections and Collecting from University of Glasgow in 2007. Since then, she has worked in commercial archaeology, joining Oxford Archaeology's Cambridge office in 2011 as an Assistant Supervisor, moving into Post-ex (Archives) in 2015. 

As Archives Project Officer, Katherine has an in-depth knowledge of the standards and guidance documents relating to archiving in general and to the East of England and East Midlands in particular. Amongst other duties, she is responsible for the preparation and deposition of all aspects of project archives, acquiring accession numbers and transfer documents, as well as the upkeep of the Oxford Archaeology library and oasis records.

Alongside archiving, Katherine’s interests include the early medieval period in northern Europe, particularly the Vikings, and she has spent several years participating in research projects on Orkney. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Nicola graduated from Durham University in 1989 with a BA(Hons) in Anthropology. She joined Oxford Archaeology in 1989, and as Head of Archives she is responsible for ensuring all museum liaison and deposition of archives arising from all our field projects. She is a committee member of Society for Museum Archaeologists and Archaeological Archives Forum.

Nicola has managed the structuring, cataloguing and deposition of over 2000 archives, including many from large and medium scale multi-period excavation and post-excavation projects. She has a good understanding of how archaeology relates to, and affects, other disciplines, and communicates well with county and national museums and public access archaeological archive repositories including digital libraries.

Nicola has contributed to development of national archaeological archive guidance and continues to promote the importance of archaeological archives through her work with SMA.
