Zoe graduated with an MA in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of St Andrews in 2003. After completing a postgraduate diploma in professional archaeology at the University of Oxford she gained an MA in Human Osteology and Funerary Archaeology from Sheffield University. She is a member of the British Association of Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology (BABAO).

She joined OA East in 2007 and worked in the on-site mortuary at Fromelles where the mass graves of WW1 soldiers were excavated in 2009. More recently she was involved in the excavation of over 1000 Anglo-Saxon and medieval skeletons from the cemetery of St Augustine, Stoke Quay, Ipswich. Zoe has worked increasingly as an osteologist for OA East, analysing and reporting on the inhumations from the high status early Roman site of Radwinter, Essex, and the cremation and inhumation burials associated with the late Bronze Age Settlement in Witchford, Cambridgeshire.
