There are lots of different paths to follow your interest in archaeology, whether you are at the start or further along your journey. Oxford Archaeology has a variety of ways to connect people with stories, ideas, and opportunities inspired by our study of the past.

Volunteering and work experience
Many of our community engagement projects offer a wide range of hands-on opportunities for participation. These can involve specialist archaeological skills such as excavation, survey, recording and finds processing but also transferable interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving. As volunteer roles are usually developed for specific projects, we do not accept speculative applications for volunteering. Any open opportunities will be promoted on our blog and social media channel.
We are keen to support those wanting to pursue a career in archaeology, and work with educational institutions to offer careers advice and experience to students. Further information about our trainee programmes and current vacancies is available on our Careers pages.

The Council for British Archaeology - The CBA works throughout the UK to help people experience and participate in archaeology.
The Portable Antiquities Scheme – The PAS records archaeological objects found by members of the public, including metal detectorists, in England and Wales.
