Are you wanting to find out more about archaeology? To expand your knowledge, skills and horizons?
There are lots of different paths to follow your interest in archaeology, whether you are at the start or further along your journey. Oxford Archaeology has a variety of ways to connect people with stories, ideas, and opportunities inspired by our study of the past.
Find out about what happens behind the scenes of an archaeological organisation in our regular blog posts, learn from our specialists on our YouTube channel, and dig deeper into our research on our library.
Most of our events are designed for the communities local to our projects. Open opportunities will be listed here and advertised through our social media channels, so follow us for updates.
Volunteering and work experience
Many of our community engagement projects offer a wide range of hands-on opportunities for participation. These can involve specialist archaeological skills such as excavation, survey, recording and finds processing but also transferable interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving. As volunteer roles are usually developed for specific projects, we do not accept speculative applications for volunteering. Any open opportunities will be promoted on our blog and social media channel.
We are keen to support those wanting to pursue a career in archaeology, and work with educational institutions to offer careers advice and experience to students. Further information about our trainee programmes and current vacancies is available on our Careers pages.
