15th November 2019:
OA East will be attending the Cambridge Antiquarian Society's annual conference on recent archaeological work in Cambridgeshire next week.
The Cambridge Antiquarian Society organises two conferences in the Spring and Autumn each year which are open to all. The Autumn conference focuses on archaeological discoveries and research undertaken in the past year, and usually includes contributions from Oxford Archaeology's East office based in Cambridgeshire at Bar Hill. This year, two of the talks will be given by OA East staff.
Steve Graham will be presenting the results of a multi-period excvation at Warboys, Cambridgeshire, completed earlier in 2019. A summary of the findings is given in an earlier website news story here: https://oxfordarchaeology.com/news/831-early-settlement-at-warboys-cambridgeshire OA East will have a stall of recent finds from Warboys and publications for sale, which will be available to browse when doors open and at lunchtime. Lawrence Billington will also be speaking at the conference, about late Neolithic settlement on the south Cambridgeshire chalk escarpment. This talk will include reference to a recent OA East excavation at Melbourn and compare the findings to historic projects.
The conference takes place on Saturday, 23rd November 2019 at the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Law, off West Road in Cambridge. Free parking is available in the University car park on Sidgwick Avenue and there is lift access to the lecture theatre. Tickets are £10 on the door (with a reduced rate of £5 for those with a CSCS card or CIfA membership). The full programme is available to download from the CAS website here: https://www.camantsoc.org/conferences/
