14th June 2017:
The second season of a three-year community project to investigate three longhouses in the Duddon Valley in the Lake District is underway
Last year, a team of volunteers, supported by staff from OA North, excavated the remains of a medieval longhouse in the hills near Seathwaite Tarn, and earlier this month returned to resume the excavation of the structures.
The project is being run by the Duddon Valley Local History Group in collaboration with OA North, and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Many of the group’s members are participating in the fieldwork, but others have joined in, including pupils and teachers from local schools.
You can follow progress of the excavation by reading the Duddon Dig blog. Click here to find out more.
