Séverine Bézie graduated in 1998 from University of Poitiers (France) with a BA (Hons) in Modern History and a University Diploma in Applied Art and Graphics. She obtained a Master's Degree in Museology and Archaeology at the University of Lyon III: Jean Moulin (France) in 2000 and studied Classical Archaeology with the University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2014-16.

Séverine joined Oxford Archaeology East in 2005. She has almost 18 years’ experience in field archaeology, finds processing, restoration and archaeological illustration. Before joining OA East, she worked several years in Italy with the French School of Rome. She specialises in Roman finds illustration and, in addition to her illustration work, is specialising in Roman pottery and continuing her collaboration with the French School of Rome.

Lawrence graduated from the University of Bristol in 2004 and has since worked for various commercial archaeological companies as well as studying for an MA in European Prehistory (University of Sheffield) and a PhD on the Upper Palaeolithic and Mesolithic of East Anglia (University of Manchester/Historic England).

Lawrence is a specialist in the study of lithic assemblages and his main area of interest is the Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age of Eastern England. Aside from reporting on lithics, he contributes to the work of the post-excavation team at Oxford Archaeology East in the production of reports and publications.

Kathryn graduated with a BA in Archaeology from Reading University in 2012 and joined Oxford Archaeology shortly after.  

Her current role includes co-ordinating large evaluations and excavations as well alongside post-excavation work.  In the last year she has run projects excavating Early Roman pottery kilns and medieval retting pits at RAF Brampton and Middle to Late Bronze Age burials at Witchford, Cambridgeshire, Late Iron Age and Early Roman settlement at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire and Roman Settlement in Stallingborough, Lincolnshire. Kathryn has a particular interest in Romano-British Archaeology and is a member of the Study Group for Roman Pottery and the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (ACIfA).

Graeme holds a BSc in archaeological science from University of Edinburgh. He has a particular interest in all parts of British prehistory, particular its earliest phases.

Some of Graeme’s recent excavations have included: the oldest recorded iron furnace and landscape around Messingham, North Lincolnshire; rarely-excavated Late Saxon to medieval salt-making activity in Kings Lynn, Norfolk; an Early Saxon hall and settlement at Saxmundham, Suffolk; settlement and wells in the small Roman town of Wenhaston, Suffolk; and an Iron Age shrine and settlement at Ashford, Kent. Some large evaluations that Graeme has overseen include of early works on the A14 in Cambridgeshire; Roman settlement on the former MoD Waterbeach barracks; and Iron Age and Bronze Age remains in Thanington Kent. A personal highlight was supervision for the year-long excavation of Mesolithic and Palaeolithic flint scatters on the Bexhill Relief Road in Sussex.

After graduating from the University of Sheffield in 1989 with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology and Prehistory, Rachel worked for a number of commercial units - notably in Essex - before joining Oxford Archaeology (then CCC AFU) in 2004. As a fieldwork Project Officer, Rachel directed numerous projects, notably in Huntingdon, Bury St Edmunds and Norwich; further developing her interest in medieval and later urban archaeology. A highlight of her career so far with OA was the analytical earthwork survey of the scheduled remains of Tilty Abbey in Essex for English Heritage/Natural England – one of the outcomes of this was the setting up of a local society with whom Rachel is still very much involved.

Rachel has also worked on major post-excavation and publication projects, including those that she has directed as well as two ‘legacy’ projects: Norwich Whitefriars and Hinxton Genome. In 2014 Rachel swapped her trowel for a pen – taking up the role of Post-excavation editor to assist Liz Popescu with editing and authoring reports, articles and monographs as well as training and mentoring less experienced colleagues. Rachel is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA).

As Oxford Archaeology's Community Archaeology Manager, Clemency develops and supports all educational and community work across Oxford Archaeology involving volunteers, educational institutions and the general public. She also oversees the legacy of OA East's highly successful Jigsaw project, as well as other outreach initiatives already established in the Cambridge office.

Previously, Clem was the Outreach Officer for a Heritage Lottery Funded project to recruit and train volunteers for the Portable Antiquities Scheme based at the British Museum and, before that, she worked for Access Cambridge Archaeology, running archaeological outreach activities for schools and community groups in East Anglia from the University of Cambridge.

Nick graduated from the University of Bradford in 2008 with a BSc in Archaeology and has since worked for a number of archaeological units in the south and east of England. He joined OA East in 2011, and has subsequently worked on a broad range of sites and periods throughout East Anglia, including the Great Fen Spitfire project. His current role involves directing excavation on site and writing reports in the post-excavation phase, recent work has included large excavations of Iron Age and Roman activity in Essex and large and small evaluations throughout Cambridgeshire.

Natasha graduated with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology and Prehistory from the University of Sheffield, followed by an MSc in Osteology, Palaeopathology and Funerary Archaeology (University of Bradford). Natasha started her archaeological career at the Museum of London and now has almost 30 years of experience working in commercial archaeology. She has worked for various archaeological organisations in England, Italy and Norway as a digger, supervisor, project manager and osteologist, and has also been involved in research projects in Egypt and Abu Dhabi.

Natasha was the senior osteoarchaeologist at the Cambridge Archaeological Unit for 20 years before starting work with Oxford Archaeology in 2016 as Finds and Environmental Manager. She has an extensive knowledge of the archaeology of Eastern England, particularly of burial archaeology, and has studied and contributed to numerous publications on assemblages both small and large from all periods.

Natasha is responsible for co-ordinating the work programmes in both the finds and environmental departments at OA East and liaising with specialists within the organisation and externally. With her specialism in osteology she also contributes to the grey literature and publications programmes at OA and has a particular interest in Bronze Age and Iron age funerary practices. She teaches at the University of Cambridge and is a member of the British Association of Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology (BABAO).

James joined Oxford Archaeology in 2005, and has been a Project Officer since 2013.

James leads evaluations and excavations on site. He also specialises Historic Building recording.  Drawing on a former career as a professional photographer, James does a great deal of photographic work, including photogrammetry, finds and publication photographs.

James makes a major contribution to community archaeology projects at Oxford Archaeology East. Some major projects have included a large Heritage Lottery funded community excavation of a Roman villa at Itter Cresent, Peterborough, and also excavation of a Spitfire from Holme Fen in conjunction with the MoD’s Operation Nightingale.

Rachel has worked for Oxford Archaeology since 2000 following a career change from pharmaceutical research. As an archaeobotanist, Rachel specialises in the identification and interpretation of charred, mineralised and waterlogged plant remains and she has worked on assemblages of all periods from numerous sites in the East of England, resulting in extensive regional knowledge. Rachel has a particular interest in cereal cultivation, processing and brewing and related experimental archaeology.

Rachel is a member of the Association of Environmental Archaeologists and an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (ACIfA).

Hayley joined OA East in 2017 as our Zooarchaeologist. Hayley graduated with a BA in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (USA), an MA in Osteoarchaeology from University of Southampton and a PhD from the University of Exeter. Her PhD research involved studying butchery practices and dining habits from medieval castle faunal assemblages. Hayley has worked as a Zooarchaeologist since 2007 in Ireland, Turkey and the UK.

Nicola supports OA East's contractual obligations and its staff through management of office resources, administration, premises and grounds maintenance, a compliant vehicle fleet, as well as personnel, finance and health and safety functions.

She joined the company in 1998, giving her many years of relevant experience, and prides herself in her organisational abilities. Nicola has a BA (Hons) from Middlesex Polytechnic.

Nick has worked in professional archaeology since 2004, and joined Oxford Archaeology in 2006. He holds an MA in Archaeology from Cambridge University and an MA in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton.

Nick’s archaeological interests are British prehistory, particularly the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Most of his field experience is around East Anglia, and he has extensive experience in fenland archaeology.

In his current role, he oversees excavations on site, and also coordinates post-excavation work and reporting. Some major projects include evaluation of a 205ha site in Kettering, Northamptonshire, and evaluation of a 60ha site in Newton-on-Trent, Lincolnshire.

Nick is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (ACIfA).

Steve has worked in commercial archaeology since graduating with a BA in Archaeology from the University of Birmingham in 2000. Steve has previously worked for  archaeological units such as Birmingham Archaeology, Wessex Archaeology and Pre-Construct Archaeology (PCA) before joining Oxford Archaeology (then CCC AFU) in 2002. Over the years, Steve has worked extensively in London, the Midlands, Cambridgeshire and East Anglia on a wide variety of site types in both urban and rural locations. In his current role, he oversees excavations on site along with post-excavation work and reporting. Despite the joys of outdoor work in the Cambridgeshire winter and the ever increasing list of personal aches and pains, Steve is still passionate about field archaeology and maintains that there is still no problem yet that can not be solved by the judicious use of a mattock. Steve is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists (ACIfA).

Andy graduated from the University of York in 2007 with a BA in Archaeology. He joined Oxford Archaeology in 2012, and currently serves as a Senior Project Manager. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA).

In his current role, Andy oversees excavations on site, and also coordinates post-excavation work and reporting. As a Project Officer he directed a wide range of fieldwork projects including significant excavations of a large high status Iron Age settlement at Cressing, Braintree and part of a Roman roadside settlement in Bishop’s Stortford along with medieval and post-medieval excavations in Huntingdon, Norwich and Cambridge.

Gillian joined Oxford Archaeology East in 2007, has almost 20 years experience in archaeological illustration, and pioneered her own style of digital finds illustration.

Gillian Greer (Gilmour) graduated in 1995 from Queen's University Belfast with a BSc (Hons) in Archaeology with Palaeoecology and worked for the Environment and Heritage Service of Northern Ireland (EHSNI) as an archaeological illustrator and finds conservator. Gillian studied graphic design at the London College of Printing in 1999 and began transitioning traditional pen and ink artwork to digital format via Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

Alongside her artistic skills Gillian has a solid base of technical mapping software such as AutoCad and QGIS. She has created an in-house GIS map of Roman Britain, tailor making Roman landscape maps for each monograph she works on. In 2000 Gillian was awarded full membership of the former Association of Archaeological Illustrators and Surveyors, and is now a member of the CifA at MCifA level.

Katherine graduated with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology from UCL in 2004 and an MLitt in the History of Collections and Collecting from University of Glasgow in 2007. Since then, she has worked in commercial archaeology, joining OA East in 2011 as an assistant supervisor and taking over the role of Archives Supervisor in 2015. Highlights of Katherine’s time in Archives include working with Cambridgeshire County Council to re-catalogue and move its archaeological store to Deepstore facilities. She is also responsible for updating the online library and is the DSE assessor for OA East.

Outside archiving, Katherine’s interests include the early medieval in northern Europe, particularly the Vikings, and she has spent several years participating in research projects on Orkney. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Toby graduated from the University of Leicester in 2007, and has since worked for various commercial archaeological units, predominently in East Anglia. He joined Oxford Archaeology East in 2013 and his current role sees him running writing reports for sites he ran in Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk. His archaeological interests are broad but he mainly focuses on the Anglo-Saxon and medieval periods.
