ILLUSTRATOR (Project Officer)
Based in Cambridge
Salary range £23,373 to £28,477* (based on experience)

The Position:

An opportunity has arisen within our busy Graphics Department at OA East, based in Bar Hill, Cambridge for an Illustrator at Project Officer level. The successful candidate will assist with the delivery of a wide range of post-excavation and publication graphics work. We are seeking an individual with experience of a variety of project types and with proven IT skills. The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience in the production of high quality graphics for archaeological grey literature and publication, including finds illustration. In addition, experience in photogrammetry, geomatics and the production of display artwork would be advantageous.

Position Requirements:

Essential
•    Proven ability in the processing and accurate graphical representation of both hand-drawn and digital archaeological data.
•    Experience of producing high quality graphics for grey literature and publication.
•    Ability to provide advice to colleagues and clients on issues of graphics presentation and illustration.
•    Thorough knowledge and understanding of British archaeology and related practices.
•    Thorough knowledge and considerable expertise in the use of all relevant graphics software (including GIS, CAD, Adobe Suite, InDesign and Microsoft).
•    Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, as appropriate.
•    Ability to assist with the research and development of both digital and traditional publication methods and systems.
•    Good organisational skills to assist in the co-ordination of the day-to-day operations of the Graphics Office and, if appropriate, large scale projects.
•    The ability to monitor and assess performance of teams and individuals and provide feedback, guidance and training in relevant graphics services.
•    Good communication skills with fluent spoken and written English.
•    Ability to carry out work practices in accordance with health and safety requirements.
•    A degree in archaeology, archaeological science or related discipline will be highly advantageous, as will experience of professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK commercial environment.

Desirable
•    Thorough knowledge in one or more specific areas of graphics services to enable the provision of accurate advice to those managing projects, and clients and other stakeholders as appropriate. Areas of expertise may include specific categories of finds and object illustration, photography, photogrammetry, reconstruction, 3D modelling, mapping software, survey and data capture.
