Permanent Appointment

IT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
based in Oxford
Salary range £19,000 - £23,000

Oxford Archaeology is looking to appoint a 1st/2nd line Support Technician to work and perform a pivotal role in a small and busy IT team. Your primary role with be to act as first point of contact for all IT Support requests, to deal with them promptly yourself, or to escalate them as appropriate, and to document your work. You will have a good understanding of IT within a busy commercial environment be highly effective in your role and to engage with people across the organisation. Attention to detail is paramount in delivering excellent IT service. 

Whilst this role is based in Oxford, occasional travel across the UK will be required.

Position Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritise and work well under pressure.
  • Experience and knowledge of providing 1st /2nd level support by email, telephone and face to face.
  • Hands-on work with PC and printer hardware and software.
  • Support and knowledge for Windows Operating Systems.
  • Support and knowledge for Microsoft Office users.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to learn fast.
  • A full clean driving licence is desirable as is experience of working within a helpdesk ticketing system environment.
  • Experience with Open Source software (particularly office suites) is desirable as well as a basic networking knowledge of (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, Wireless).

Permanent Appointment

ZOOARCHAEOLOGIST
based in Cambridge
Salary range £22,247 - £27,106

An opportunity has arisen within our Finds Department at Oxford Archaeology East, based in Cambridge. We intend to appoint a Zooarchaeologist with proven experience in the relevant field to publication standard. The post-holder will undertake the assessment and analysis of faunal assemblages of all sizes and archaeological periods, leading to the production of technical reports, as well as monograph and journal publications.

Position Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in the identification, analysis and reporting of animal bone assemblages from archaeological sites, to publication standard.
  • Able to contribute to archaeological investigations by providing on-site guidance and advice where appropriate on zooarchaeological issues.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of British archaeology and the principles, practices, procedures and processes relevant to investigations.
  • Ability to work independently when required, but also to operate as part of a team, with a flexible approach when working under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Good communication skills with fluent spoken and written English.
  • Ability to carry out work practices in accordance with health and safety requirements.
  • A degree in archaeology, archaeological science or related discipline will be highly advantageous, as will experience of professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK commercial environment.

FIELD ARCHAEOLOGISTS AND ASSISTANT SUPERVISORS

Required for Cambridge, Lancaster and Oxford

Salary range £17,894 - £19,227*

We are looking for skilled, experienced and enthusiastic archaeologists to join our team at OA.  Although it can be advantageous to be based within reach of one of our three regional offices (in Cambridge, Lancaster and Oxford), we have opportunities on projects throughout the country and are therefore interested in applications from people anywhere in England and Wales.

Archaeologist Position:

  • Competitive salary range £17,894 - £18,342 (*pay award pending) in line with CIfA salary minima guidelines; appointments will be made on the basis of demonstrated ability, previous experience and CIfA membership if appropriate
  • Candidates will have 6 months experience of professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK or Irish commercial environment. Documented evidence of competence, in the form of a completed training log from our Graduate Trainee programme or the Archaeology Skills Passport scheme will be advantageous
  • A degree in archaeology or related discipline will be highly advantageous, as will membership of the CIfA at PCIfA level
  • A full clean driving licence is desirable, as is a current CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card

Assistant Supervisor Position:

  • Competitive salary range £18,663 - £19,227 (*pay award pending) in line with CIfA salary minima guidelines; appointments will be made on the basis of demonstrated ability, previous experience and CIfA membership if appropriate
  • Candidates must demonstrate proven experience, technical proficiency and good working knowledge of professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK or Irish commercial environment
  • Candidates will be able to support the Project Supervisor and assist with supervision, guidance, task allocation, performance monitoring and training where appropriate for Fieldwork Archaeologists and Graduate Trainees
  • Candidates will be able to undertake tasks such as surveying, watching briefs, machine watching, record checking, matrix building and mentoring of trainees
  • A degree in archaeology or related discipline will be highly advantageous, as will membership of the CIfA at PCIfA level
  • A full clean driving licence is desirable, as is a current CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card

  • A degree in archaeology, or equivalent academic knowledge and practical ability

  • A current CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card is also highly desirable, but training and funding may be provided for those without a card
