Gill has worked for Oxford Archaeology since 1986, as a field officer and senior project manager at OA South, Regional Manager at OA North, and now as Chief Executive Officer. She has over 30 years’ experience of a variety archaeological projects of many periods, undertaken in the United Kingdom and overseas, and has a particular research interest in British Neolithic and Bronze Age settlement and landscape. She has considerable experience of project management, post-excavation programmes, publication and consultancy work, including EIAs, large tenders and acting as an expert witness.

Gill has a degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Reading and a PhD from University College London. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA) and a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA). Gill is also Honorary Secretary of the Royal Archaeological Institute, a Trustee of the Rollright Trust, a Visiting Fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford, and an Honorary Research Associate of the University of Oxford School of Archaeology.

Simon unusually combines his extensive archaeological experience (graduating in Archaeology from Reading University in 1977) with his later training as a Chartered Management Accountant (qualified ACMA in 2004). He has been involved in managing archaeological organisations at a senior level for over twenty years, covering all aspects: finance, HR, IT and general administration.

Prior to taking on these non-archaeological roles, Simon was employed as a Senior Project Manager, directing major archaeological excavations and heritage management projects within the Oxford region.

Simon balances the important commercial needs of a modern organisation with a deep understanding of the passion and pursuit of archaeology within the Charity sector.

Holding a BA in Archaeology from the University of Southampton Bob has 35 years' experience in professional archaeology and is one of the most respected figures on the commercial circuit. As COO Bob has responsibility for coordinating operations across all our offices, and as Regional Manager for Oxford South he has a particular focus on driving performance at that office.

A Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA), and a committee member of the Federation of Archaeological Managers and Employers (FAME), he is still deeply passionate about the subject and combines this with an equal passion for getting things done with a focus on what our clients need most - a quick and effective response, regulatory compliance, and a competitive price.

As a project manager and director Bob has run and coordinated some of OA's most complex projects including High Speed 1, M6 Toll, Heathrow Terminal 5, and the A417/419 Swindon to Gloucester Road Scheme.

Dan has extensive experience of project management and heads up the OA South Fieldwork and Contracts teams. In Fieldwork Dan is responsible for resourcing and ensuring quality and compliance across all OA South projects. In Contracts Dan leads on tender responses and contract negotiation. In both areas he brings a determined focus on providing value to our clients.

A Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), Dan continues to manage projects in his own right, running major works for Network Rail on Thameslink, London, and recently completing work on the large scale urban redevelopment of the Castle quarter in Oxford. In addition Dan is NEBOSH qualified and undertakes the role of Group Health and Safety coordinator for OA.

Anne manages the post-excavation research and publications function at OA South. Her job is to take the data collected in the field and turn it into information accessible by researchers and the wider public. In this she has to balance the needs of our clients for rapid turnaround and cost-effective delivery while ensuring the highest academic standards are maintained. In doing this she has built one of the most successful publication departments in UK archaeology, admired for both the quality and quantity of its output.

Anne graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in English, and after a first career in Human Resource Management, she took the post graduate Diploma in Archaeology at the university. Anne is now one of the UK's most respected archaeological editors and authors and a specialist on the urban development of Oxford and the archaeology of the Thames Valley.

Holding a BA in Archaeology from the University of Bristol, an MA from UCL Institute of Archaeology, and a PhD from Cambridge University, Alan has over 25 years' experience in professional archaeology in the UK and abroad. As Operations Manager Alan has responsibility for co-ordinating operations at OA North, and acts as the initial point of contact for commercial clients at that office.

A Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), he is committed to improving practice at OA North, while focussing on providing a cost-effective service for the wide variety of clients that we deal with. As a project manager Alan has run and co-ordinated some of OA North’s most complex projects including the A1(M) Darrington to Dishforth DBFO Road Scheme.

Rachel Newman

Rachel graduated from the University of Durham with a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology and has worked in the North West for almost 30 years, during that time gaining a wealth of knowledge about the archaeology of the region. She acts as Senior Executive Officer: Research and Publications at OA North, in which role she oversees the post-excavation programme from post-excavation assessments through to publications. From its instigation, she has been the Series Editor for the Lancaster Imprints monographs and has overseen the development of the Greater Manchester’s Past Revealed series.

Rachel has a deep commitment to the archaeology of the region and has acted as period coordinator for the early medieval aspects of the North West Regional Archaeological Research Framework, working also as a member of its steering group. She also was a member of the steering group for the Hadrian’s Wall Research Framework, and has acted as a committee member for the last two Hadrian’s Wall Pilgrimages and the International Limes Congress, held in Newcastle in 2009. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, a Vice-President of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society and Chairman of its Research and Grants Committee, as well as being active in several other local societies.

Paul has worked full-time in professional archaeology since the late 1980s and before that studied for a degree in Archaeological Sciences at the University of Bradford and a PhD at Bournemouth (awarded 1990). He leads the management team at OA East, and has delivered that role since 2002, spanning the acquisition of that business by OA in 2008.

Paul has managed archaeological programmes of all kinds for more than twenty years, but specializes in medieval archaeology and urban landscapes. Paul is also a medieval pottery specialist and has published widely in this area and in the study of medieval landscapes and economy. He has also been involved with the teaching of archaeology in continuing education for many years, and currently acts as external examiner for Madingley Hall, Cambridge.

Paul has Group responsibility for the support of OA’s IT systems and users, in all OA offices and sites in the UK and abroad. He manages a small team of technical specialists based in Oxford and elsewhere.

Paul has been continuously employed in archaeology since the late 1970s, with breaks to gain archaeology degrees from Durham and Leicester universities. Between running urban excavations, Paul also became a medieval pottery specialist, which involved doing a lot of hard sums. One day in 1982 somebody showed him a clever toy to do the sums for him, and the rest is history. He has been working with computer systems in archaeology for the last 30 years, principally in Stamford, Lincoln, and Oxford.

Aileen has over 30 years' experience in professional archaeology in Britain. She graduated from UCL Institute of Archaeology in 1981 with a BA in Archaeology.

Aileen is an experienced archaeologist and project manager, having directed and published a number of large-scale urban and rural projects, including Causeway Lane, Leicester, and Brandon Road, Thetford. Her portfolio as a project manager includes several large urban excavation/post-excavation programmes in the medieval core of Huntingdon, as well as numerous rural and village core excavations and evaluations.

Aileen has been an Associate of the Institute for Archaeologists (AIfA) since 1990 and is currently vice-chairman of the Council for British Archaeology Eastern Region Group (CBA East).

Ben graduated from Reading University in 1990 with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology. He joined Oxford Archaeology in 1996, and serves as a Senior Project Manager and Term Contract Manager for the Historic Royal Palaces. He is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA).

Ben has particular strengths in the management, organisation, execution and delivery of large and medium scale excavation and post-excavation projects on urban, and built environment sites where archaeological work has to dovetail with that of demolition/remediation and construction contractors. He has a good understanding of how archaeology relates to, and affects, other disciplines, and can communicate well with all project stakeholders, such as engineers, architects, local authorities, and English Heritage.

His many years in the profession allow him to be highly versatile, maintain a clear focus on the implications of time and budgetary constraints, and deliver high quality from a project’s conception to its completion.

Chris Hayden

Chris is a senior project manager in the post-excavation department at OA South. His responsibilities are focused on the management of the final stages of projects: assessment and analysis of the results of excavations, and publication of a final report. This role involves focusing resources as efficiently as possible upon both the needs of our clients and relevant academic research questions.

Chris has worked at OA for 14 years on projects ranging from an early Neolithic long house in Kent to the world’s first purpose-built office building, Somerset House in London. He has special interests in the prehistoric period, especially the Neolithic and Bronze Age, and in the use of quantitative methods in post-excavation analysis.

Chris has a BSc from the Institute of Archaeology in London and a PhD from Cambridge. He has worked on numerous excavations in Britain, France, Germany, Malta and Peru, and lectured for two years at the University of California, Berkeley.

Chris Howard-Davis

Chris graduated from Sheffield University in the mid-70s and has had almost 40 years of experience in professional archaeology, both in Britain and Europe. She is a founder-member of the Institute for Archaeologists. Having a wide range of archaeological and artefactual expertise, she has specialised in artefact studies for the last 30 years, and has published reports on objects of all periods from the Mesolithic to the present day, having a particular expertise in Roman and medieval finds, and a growing interest in post-medieval ceramics.

Currently Finds Manager for OAN, Chris has a deep interest in the use of artefacts in illustrating, interpreting and understanding the way in which individuals in the past regarded themselves and interacted with the world around them. Chris Howard-Davis has made a substantial contribution to the study of artefacts in the North-West, editing and compiling major publications such as the Carlisle Millennium Project, and has contributed reports and syntheses to many site-specific reports, and infrastructure projects. She also undertakes an editorial role in other projects and is a long-standing member of the OAN post-excavation team.

David has worked as a professional archaeologist for OA for 16 years since graduating from Reading University in 1996 with a first class honours degree in Archaeology. He is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), and as a Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of diverse projects, which currently includes one of the largest urban regeneration developments in the country and a number of significant infrastructure schemes.

David has considerable project management experience in fieldwork, post-excavation and consultancy within a commercial environment and is a flexible and adaptable manager. An adept problem solver, often formulating new strategies for excavating and recording the archaeological evidence to satisfy client requirements, he is experienced at planning archaeological investigations to coincide with the work programmes of major development projects, and is particularly accomplished at liaising and working with clients and other contractors on site. David takes pride in completing the archaeological work to a high standard while bringing projects in on time and within budget.

Edward Biddulph graduated with a BA (Hons) in Archaeology from UCL Institute of Archaeology in 1995, and stayed on at UCL to gain an MA in Archaeology in 1996. His professional career began as a field archaeologist in Bedfordshire and Lincolnshire, and he was subsequently a Roman pottery researcher in Essex. Edward joined Oxford Archaeology in 2001.

As a Senior Project Manager, Edward is responsible for managing post-excavation projects, undertaking stratigraphic analysis, research, report writing, and editing, and delivering reports for clients and publication. He is currently managing the post-excavation work for Stanford Wharf Nature Reserve, an Iron Age and Roman salt production site in south Essex. Edward is also a Roman pottery specialist, and has written numerous pottery reports. His research interests include samian ware, Roman cemeteries, and cultural evolution, and he is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA).

Elizabeth holds a BA (hons) in Natural Sciences (Botany) from the University of Dublin, and an MSc (by thesis) in Botany from the University of Dublin. She is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), the Quaternary Research Association (QRA), the British Ecological Society and the Association for Environmental Archaeology (AEA).

She has over 40 years of experience (with a career break from 1971-1985) in professional and academic palaeoecology and environmental archaeology analysis, specialising in pollen and waterlogged plant macrofossil. Elizabeth took part in two major wetland projects for English Heritage, the North West Wetland Survey and the Upland Peat Project. She has published reports on material ranging in date from early interglacial deposits in SW France to the post-medieval in the British Isles.

As environmental manager for OA North, Elizabeth contributes to the designs and co-ordinates the sampling programmes for OA North excavations and liaises with other specialists within and outside OA to ensure high academic standards and to provide an effective outcome for our clients. As well as contributing specialist reports, Elizabeth has a small editorial role in other post-excavation projects.

Liz oversees the post-excavation research and publications function at OA East. Her job is to manage all aspects of post-excavation work, including the finds, environmental and graphics teams. She also edits all of the academic and popular publications produced by the Cambridge team, ensuring that the highest academic standards are maintained and that projects are delivered on time to clients.

Liz graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology and has a PhD from the University of East Anglia. She has considerable experience in managing complex projects and specialises in urban Late Saxon and medieval archaeology, with particular interest in castle and cemetery studies. She continues to excavate abroad and has worked extensively in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Elizabeth graduated from Cardiff University in 1994 with BA (Hons) in Archaeology. Following a period working as a field archaeologist for a number of commercial units in the north of England she joined OA in 1996. In 2000 Elizabeth undertook an MSc in geoarchaeology at the University of Reading. She currently manages Geoarchaeological Services at OA South, comprising a team of specialists whose activities include borehole and geophysical surveys with 3-D deposit modelling.

With a professional career spanning 18 years, Elizabeth has gained extensive experience in field, environmental archaeology and geoarchaeology. While working for OA, she has been involved in many developer-funded projects across the south, the Midlands, East Anglia and north-east England. She has worked on a range of multi-period sites, and has particular experience of prehistoric wetland archaeology.

Emily is an experienced project manager in all manner of archaeological disciplines. However, after having obtained a BA in Archaeology from Newcastle Upon Tyne and concentrating on multi-disciplinary landscape projects in her early career, Emily went on to gain an MSc in Archaeological Prospection. Following this, she spent a period of time in geochemical research, together with a number of years spent working as a project manager for a major UK geophysical contractor. Consequently, when Emily joined OA North in 2003 she specialised in geophysical techniques and applications, and is currently a member of the International Society for Archaeological Prospection.

Emily is now also the main contact for Heritage Management Services at OA North, having led the formalisation of such services at the Lancaster office. She has managed projects assessing the impacts on heritage assets for EIAs, such as the Preston Tithebarn Regeneration project and Lancaster University Wind Turbines project, and desk-based assessments, such as for the BSfF government-funded project, as well as all manner of more tailor-made heritage assessments to suit the clients’ needs, such as contributing to the Chester Renaissance Masterplan and Rows Conservation Management Plan.

Fraser Brown

Fraser has been working in British archaeology since the late 1980s and graduated with a BA in Archaeology and Prehistory from Sheffield University in 1995. He joined Oxford Archaeology in 1998 and currently works as a Senior Project Manager for OA North.

He has considerable project management experience, overseeing projects, in both rural and urban environments, from tender through to publication. He has routinely undertaken work for the building construction, mineral extraction, transport and energy sectors, and has particular experience of large-scale infrastructure projects, including road schemes, long-distance pipelines and airports. Notable recent projects include the Carlisle Northern Development Route, the Isle of Man Airport Runway End Safety Area project, and the Asselby to Pannal Natural Gas Pipeline.

Ian Miller

Ian has worked as a professional archaeologist continuously since the late 1980s, and has vast experience of all aspects of commercial archaeology, although his principal interest lies in the research, recording and interpretation of industrial heritage. He was appointed as a Senior Project Manager with OA North in 2003, since which time he has been involved almost exclusively with industrial archaeology, and is one of the leading experts in this field in the North West.

Having been responsible for the archaeological works associated with the Murrays Mill Shell Repairs project in Manchester, and the English Heritage-funded Lancashire Textile Mills Survey, Ian has particular experience of historic textile-manufacturing sites. He has also led several successful community-based excavations of former textile mills, allowing him to share his passion and knowledge of our industrial heritage actively with local interest groups.

Ian is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, and an elected member of the CBA North West Industrial Archaeology Panel, and the Cumberland and Westmorland Archaeological Society Industrial Archaeology Panel.

Ianto Wain

Ianto Wain has over 20 years' experience as a professional archaeologist and is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA). He has extensive experience in heritage management and environmental impact assessment (EIA). He has completed numerous EIAs of large-scale infrastructure, housing, energy, commercial and linear projects, including West Coast Main Line, HS1, South-West Oxfordshire Reservoir, Merthyr Village, Exeter Science Park and road schemes including M1, M20, M25, M40 and A11. He also has Public Inquiry Expert Witness experience.

In addition to his EIA specialism he has a strong track record in historic landscape research and analysis, urban surveys, characterisation surveys and the preparation of management proposals for archaeological monuments. He has carried out condition and management surveys for a wide range of archaeological monuments including Stonehenge, Avebury World Heritage site and Maiden Castle. He managed and had significant input into the Oxford Archaeological Database (a major review of the archaeology of the historic city of Oxford) and has recently completed the management of a number of large-scale strategic policy reviews for English Heritage, a review of the use of Historic Landscape Characterisation in the Irish Republic for the Heritage Council of Ireland, and a review of potential cumulative impacts for the construction of offshore windfarms.

James has over 30 years' experience in British archaeology after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a BA in Prehistory and Archaeology and the University of Bradford with a PG(Dip) in Scientific Methods in Archaeology.

James spent  23 years with the Museum of London, including working on major infrastructure projects (Jubilee Line Extension, Crossrail and Thameslink 2000), and has written three monographs on Roman London. A Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), James has served on the Council and worked on various working parties.

Jamie Quartermaine (BA Hons, Surv Dip, MIfA) has been a project officer and then project manager at OA North since 1984, and has considerable experience of all aspects of commercial archaeology. He has specialised in landscape recording and building surveys, and is one of the leading authorities in the study of archaeological landscapes. He has published monographs on the archaeological landscapes of the Lake District and the archaeology of Thomas Telford’s Holyhead road through North Wales.

Jamie is a qualified land surveyor, and has striven to develop landscape and building recording techniques, which vary from the introduction of GPS techniques in the early 1990s, to laser scanning, LiDAR, GIS and, more recently, modern photogrammetry techniques. He has extensive experience of training in all aspects of digital recording and was involved in the training of a Nepalese survey team to undertake a comprehensive recording programme of a large 17th-century palace on the outskirts of Kathmandu.

Jill Hind has 13 years' experience as a professional archaeologist and is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA). She holds a MSt in Professional Archaeology from the University of Oxford. She has extensive experience in heritage management and environmental impact assessment (EIA); projects include HS2, Reading Sewage Works, Dunsfold Airfield and the Kennet Valley Park Project. Conservation and Management Plan work includes Rathcroghan in the Irish Republic, Brockham Limeworks, Audley End and Leeds Castle. She also specialises in post-medieval archaeology, contributing to the Solent Thames Research Framework and the Thames Through Time series.

Jill has contributed to a number of strategic projects, including the Oxford Archaeological Database, a review of the use of Historic Landscape Characterisation in the Irish Republic, a review of potential cumulative impacts for offshore energy, the Nighthawking Survey and the Planarch 2 review of cultural heritage in EIA. Urban characterisation projects have covered Newbury, Melton Mowbray and Leicester.

Jon has worked in Oxford Archaeology’s Historic Buildings Department since 1998, and he particularly specialises in the investigation of post-medieval and modern buildings. He holds a BA in Architecture, as well as a Masters Degree in Industrial Archaeology from the Ironbridge Institute, and he is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA).

Jon helps to coordinate the overall department’s workload, as well as manages individual projects, undertakes on-site investigations, writes reports and tenders for new work. He undertakes a wide range of projects, including conservation management plans, impact assessments, environmental statements, large-scale building recording prior to developments, and small-scale assessments to assist in planning applications. While with OA, Jon has worked on scheduled Cold War sites, Royal Palaces, airfields, industrial complexes, gunpowder factories, grand country houses, and much more humble dwellings.

Julian has worked at Oxford Archaeology since 1990 on environmental assessment, historic landscapes and buildings, and is Head of Buildings Archaeology.

He has studied timber buildings, castles and cathedrals, and is interested in the link between documentary history and extant remains of the past. With an interest in urban and rural landscapes, he has examined the relationship between places, their physical remains and written history, and has published numerous studies. He often undertakes investigation and assessment of historic buildings and places for planning purposes, and has been involved in a series of Conservation Plans for national monuments (castles, country houses and cathedrals), and planning assessments of greater and lesser buildings of all types and periods.

Julian is involved in teaching and outreach activities, and is a frequent public speaker on many aspects of the historic environment. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA), has often appeared as an expert witness at public inquiries and planning hearings, and sits on the English Heritage Advisory Committee (EHAC).

Ken has over 20 years' experience in professional archaeology and is an Associate Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (AIfA). After graduating in 1986 with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science, Ken worked as a geologist before transferring to archaeology in 1988.

Since joining Oxford Archaeology in 1995, Ken has managed a wide range of archaeological projects, including large-scale mineral extraction schemes, housing developments, pipelines and road schemes. He was Project Manager for the archaeological fieldwork at Terminal 5 and has also been Project Manager for a number of other fieldwork projects at Heathrow, Stansted and Edinburgh Airports.

Ken has particular experience in the management of complex archaeological mitigation schemes within large-scale infrastructure works, development of innovative and cost-effective approaches to archaeological mitigation, implementation of digital recording systems, databases and GIS analysis and the provision of archaeological planning advice.

Klara graduated in archaeology in 1987 from York University and subsequently obtained an MSc in Historic Conservation at Oxford Brookes University. She joined OA in 1991 and has managed the Heritage Management Services Department since 1999. She is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and ICOMOS.

Klara has considerable experience in the production and management of environmental impact assessments, historic conservation and management plans, desk-based assessments, landscape studies, cultural and strategic projects, and has managed many English Heritage-funded research projects. She has provided overall management and guidance in OA’s role as Heritage Planning Consultant to the Jersey Government, and is heavily involved with English Heritage’s initiative to understand and reduce impacts to scheduled monuments from farming. Klara is also an experienced field archaeologist and has worked throughout England and in Lapland, Peru, Turkmenistan and Ethiopia for a variety of universities.

Leigh has a BA (Hons) in ancient history and archaeology from Nottingham University, a post-graduate diploma in practical archaeology from Oxford University, department of Extramural Studies, and over 25 years of experience in professional archaeology.

Head of the finds department at OA South since 1989, Leigh manages the processing, cataloguing,  short-term curation, and deposition of all finds assemblages from all sites excavated by OA South. She liaises with project managers, specialists both internal and external, conservators and landowners to ensure the efficient, cost effective and secure progress of the finds from excavation through to deposition.

Leigh also produces assessment and publication reports on late medieval/post-medieval metalwork, worked bone (of all periods) and Roman ceramic building material.

Lisa has been a senior project manager in the post-excavation department at OA South for eight years. Her responsibilities include management of specialist teams, stratigraphic analysis, research, editing and production of reports for clients and publication. This role involves focusing resources as efficiently as possible upon both the needs of our clients and relevant academic research questions.

Projects have ranged from post-excavation analysis and publication of the Heathrow Terminal 5 to the 18th-19th century stone quarries at Combe Down, Bath, and the Trégueur Project (Brittany, France). She is currently involved in the joint venture Thameslink Project and the Weymouth Relief Road publication programme. Her special interests are in the prehistoric period, especially the Bronze Age and Iron Age, and in particular in the ceramics of those periods.

Lisa has a BA in European prehistory and early history from the University of the South (USA) and a Certificate in Archaeology from Oxford University. She is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and a part-time tutor in archaeology at Oxford University Department for Continuing Education. She has worked on numerous excavations in Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy, and takes part in research-based fieldwork projects on an annual basis.

Holding a BA in Archaeology and a PhD in Biological Anthropology from the University of Bristol, Louise has almost 20 years' experience in the excavation and analysis of human remains from archaeological sites. As Head of Burials, Louise leads and manages a team dedicated to all aspects of burial archaeology, providing expert guidance, advice, consultancy and quality assurance on burial-related projects.

A member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and the British Association for Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology (BABAO), Louise recently led a team in the excavation and analysis of WWI mass graves in Fromelles, France. She has contributed numerous osteology reports on assemblages both large and small and dating from prehistory to early modern, to publications, and has published on methodologies for analysing peri-mortem trauma and human skeletal modification. Louise is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Archaeology Department, University of Exeter.

Matt has been involved with archaeology for over twenty years. He has a BA in Archaeology from UCL Institute of Archaeology (1992) and an MSc in GIS from UCL’s Department of Geomatic Engineering (1998). He has worked on a wide variety of sites in the UK, Europe and in the Middle East. He has been Head of Geomatics since 2006 and has worked in the Geomatics Department at OA since its inception in 2001.

He contributes to most projects at OA South which involve historic landscape survey and metric survey of earthworks and buildings, as well as many that concern heritage management and environmental assessment. Among other innovations, he has been involved with developing the application of GIS and LiDAR data for archaeological use. This has given him comprehensive experience of applying geomatics to heritage and archaeology.

Nicola graduated from Durham University in 1989 with a BA(Hons) in Anthropology. She joined Oxford Archaeology in 1989, and as Head of Archives she is responsible for ensuring all museum liaison and deposition of archives arising from all our field projects. She is a committee member of Society for Museum Archaeologists and Archaeological Archives Forum.

Nicola has managed the structuring, cataloguing and deposition of over 2000 archives, including many from large and medium scale multi-period excavation and post-excavation projects. She has a good understanding of how archaeology relates to, and affects, other disciplines, and communicates well with county and national museums and public access archaeological archive repositories including digital libraries.

Nicola has contributed to development of national archaeological archive guidance and continues to promote the importance of archaeological archives through her work with SMA.

Paul has a BA in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of Birmingham and more than 30 years of experience in professional archaeology. He has undertaken a wide variety of major fieldwork and post-excavation projects and is now mainly involved in post-excavation management, reporting and editing. He is also an established Roman pottery specialist.

Paul integrates project work with a range of research interests in the Roman period in Britain and has published widely in this field. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and an Honorary Research Associate of the Institute of Archaeology at Oxford, as well as being involved with the Roman Society. He is currently president of the Study Group for Roman Pottery.

Rebecca Nicholson holds a BA (hons) in archaeology and history from the University of York, an MA in Environmental Archaeology and Palaeoeconomy from the University of Sheffield and a DPhil from the University of York. She is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and a committee member for the Association for Environmental Archaeology (AEA). 

She has almost 30 years of experience in professional and academic archaeology, specialising in archaeozoology but particularly in the study of fish remains and fishing. She has published reports on material ranging in date from Mesolithic to post-medieval.

As environmental manager for OA South, Rebecca designs and co-ordinates the sampling programmes for OAS excavations and liaises with other specialists within and outside OA to ensure high academic standards and to provide an effective outcome for our clients. As well as contributing specialist reports, Rebecca has an editorial role in other post-excavation projects.

Richard has been a professional archaeologist since joining Oxford Archaeology in 1985. As a Senior Project Manager, Richard is responsible for managing fieldwork and post-excavation projects. Significant projects managed by Richard include works on Ebbsfleet International Railway Station on High Speed 1, the western section of Crossrail and several road-schemes. Richard’s projects are mainly incorporated within complex infrastructure and large urban development works, although he is also responsible for work related to the Royal Households and has a background in castle and chateau excavation, including Windsor Castle and the Chateau de Falaise. Richard is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA).

Richard holds a BA (Hons) in Geography and Archaeology from the University of Manchester and a PhD in Archaeology, also awarded by the University of Manchester. Richard has over 15 years' experience in archaeology and has been involved in many aspects of professional archaeology, including archaeological assessment, excavation, and post-excavation, as well as undertaking academic-based research. Richard has extensive experience in report writing and publication, and has been instrumental in the publication of a series of chronologically diverse projects, although his specialist interests presently reside with the Romano-British and prehistoric archaeology of Northern Britain.

As Senior Project Manager at OA East Richard tenders for, manages and co-ordinates the post-excavation work for many of our larger and more complex projects. Recent projects have included Clay Farm, Trumpington for Countryside Properties and Anglia Water's Covenham to Boston Transfer Pipeline with Mott MacDonald.

A Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), he is committed equally to improving our understanding of archaeology and to providing a cost-effective service for our clients.  His research interests lie in the Middle Bronze Age and Middle Saxon periods.

Robert has 27 years' experience in archaeological management, research and heritage consultancy. He has a BSc(Hons) in Archaeological Science and an HND in Conservation. He is a member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and ICOMOS UK. He has carried out numerous large-scale, high profile projects both in the UK and abroad, and has over 20 academic and popular publications to his name.

Robert has held the position of Head of International Business at Oxford Archaeology since 2004 and is responsible for identifying OA's capabilities to undertake international projects in the conservation, management, interpretation, development and appraisal of heritage sites. He has undertaken numerous international projects in India, Turkey, France and China.

Before joining OA, Robert was the Project Manager for the Cusichaca Trust in Peru working on rural development projects and museum and social anthropological research programmes for more than six years, and he now serves on its Board.

Stephen has over 28 years' experience in British, French and North American archaeology. He graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA in Prehistory and Archaeology, and has an MPhil in Archaeological Heritage and Museums from the University of Cambridge.

He is a leading proponent of Public Archaeology and has the responsibility for coordinating and developing  education and outreach projects across Oxford Archaeology. Stephen has considerable experience in successfully obtaining grant aid for this work.

He has extensive experience in project management, contracts and also manages the Oxford Archaeology Outreach service. Stephen is a Heritage Management and Roman specialist, and continues to pursue research projects in these areas in the Eastern Region. Stephen is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and sits on the council of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society.

Stephen graduated from the University of York in 1998 with a BSc in Archaeology and, in 2000, an MSc in Human Palaeoecology. Since joining OA North in 2005 he has managed a wide range of projects, from tender stage, through fieldwork, assessment and analysis, to publication.

Major fieldwork and post-excavation projects include the second stage of excavation within and around the Furness Abbey presbytery (Cumbria), and the Easington to Paull Natural Gas Pipeline (East Yorkshire). Among Stephen's diverse interests is a peculiar fascination with funerary archaeology and human osteology, and he has managed substantial fieldwork and post-excavation investigations within the crowded post-medieval and industrial-period cemeteries at Coronation Street, South Shields (Tyne and Wear), and Redearth, Darwen (Lancashire).

Steve has experience at many levels of fieldwork, having been employed in professional archaeology since 1994. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Steve was responsible for the field direction of excavations of several large late Iron Age and Roman settlements. These include two large rural Roman ‘small towns’ and a villa complex. Each project was completed over periods of several months with large field teams, and included significant volunteer involvement that had to be managed as part of the excavations. Following fieldwork, Steve had a role in the analysis and publication of each site, and was the lead author for the Higham Ferrers and Thurnham Villa monographs.

Steve also has a wide range of project management experience, with notable large projects being the investigation of an important copper works at Swansea, carriage widening around the M25, and the ongoing excavations at Great Western Park, Didcot. Each of these have provided challenging programmes, deadlines, excavation conditions and archaeological remains, which have been successfully managed to provide project delivery to the clients.

Stuart graduated from from Durham University in 1990 with a  BA (Hons) in Archaeology and Anthropology. He is a Member of the Institute of Field Archaeologists (MIfA). He joined Oxford Archaeology in 1997 after an early career as a field archaeologist in Essex and elsewhere in the UK.

His range of experience includes environmental impact assessments, field surveys, evaluations, excavations and building recording. He has training and experience in expert witness work and extensive practical experience of designing mitigation and preservation schemes, including codes of construction practice. He is particularly experienced in managing archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation projects on major transport infrastructure schemes, such as OA's commitment to High Speed 1, the A30 Bodmin to Indian Queens Roadscheme, and the London Gateway Port.

Tim has directed and written up archaeological excavations for OA for over 30 years. His excavation projects include pipelines, road schemes, urban redevelopment, mineral extraction, housing, and work in modern cemeteries. The largest and most complex of these have been the Abingdon Vineyard Redevelopment, Eton Rowing Course, the A2 Pepperhill to Cobham Road Widening in Kent, and the Rocade Briochine at St Brieuc in Brittany. He has also directed research excavations and surveys built around public participation for the Earth Trust at Little Wittenham in Oxfordshire.

Tim acted as the Highways Agency’s Archaeological Advisor on the A13 Thames Gateway DBFO scheme and for the SW Framework Environmental Consultancy for proposed dualling schemes in Cornwall. He provided the Cultural Heritage contribution to the A2 Pepperhill to Cobham EIA. He has also been consultant to the Vale of White Horse District Council, Eton College, and several developers.

Tim is an experienced publicist of archaeology through open days, exhibitions, popular publications, web pages, public lectures and talks, promotional films, TV and radio. Tim has an MA and BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Oxford, and is a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA) and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA).
